With growing concerns over the spread of the COVID-19 virus locally and abroad, The Salvation Army Burlington Community & Family Services has had to consider a range of actions to respond in the best interest of our clients, volunteers and staff. We continue to be committed to:
the health and safety of our clients, volunteers and staff,
meeting the needs of our clients with whatever provisions we have,
enhanced cleaning and sanitizing of our service areas,
education about hand washing and flu prevention,
reducing the spread of the virus.
The Salvation Army Community & Family Services will remain OPEN for our usual food bank hours, 9:00 am – 11:30 am each weekday morning, and, we have waived our 21 day return policy, so if clients are in need they visit once per week. As we serve our clients we are striving to practice safe “ 6 feet physical distancing”. ONLY one person will be permitted in the front lobby at a time to receive prepackage bags.
Monday, March 16, 2020, and until further notice, we have moved to “pre packed grocery bags” rather than our usual grocery shopping model . Unfortunately we are no longer able to give our clients food choices as we have done in the past. Milk and eggs may not be available at every visit. There will be limited options to address specific needs, such as diapers, baby food and personal hygiene products. Bread and bakery choices are still available to all our clients.
Before you visit The Food Bank, please ensure you can answer
NO to all of the following mandatory health screening questions:
Have you had a cough, runny nose, sneezing, sore throat, fever, malaise or aches within the last 14 days?
Have you had close contact with a confirmed or probable case of COVID-19?
Have you had close contact with a person with acute respiratory illness or fever in the last 14 days?
Have you travelled outside of Canada in the last 14 days?
Have you had close contact with a person who has traveled outside of Canada within the last 14 days?
If you have questions around your symptoms: call 1-888-315-9257
Clients who cannot comply with these health screening questions, and are still in need of food, should call our office (905)-637-3893 and we will arrange to have groceries brought out to your car when you arrive at the parking lot.
We will be revisiting these measures throughout this initial suspension period and will make changes as required to meet the needs of our clients as best we can, while still being consistent with our guiding principles and compliant with Health Authority instructions.
Any donations of food, cleaning supplies and hygiene products are still gratefully received, and may be needed more now than ever. Most needed items include canned fruit, cold cereal, rice, crackers, canned meat, baby food and formula. We currently have an ample supply of dry pasta and canned soup.
